Unemployment Update

It's almost been a month since I was laid off. I have been working on a bathroom project - installing a walk-in shower. It's ready for tile now. Here's a picture:

My plan was to take it easy for a couple of months before I even started looking for another job, but the economy these days won't let you be off work for very long before those looking to hire are put off by your length of unemployment.

I finished my resume and sent it to a friend of mine that works for a company that is looking to hire someone like me. I got a call the next day and just like that, I have an interview with that company tomorrow. I'm not sure about this job, it is an electrical maintenance job and it is 50 miles away. 100 miles each day, that's a lot of fuel. But lots of people do it.

The First Day Of The First Week Of Unemployment

So far it's been productive. Signed up for unemployment insurance. $238.00 a week. And it's taxed! The GOP are always harping on the fact that people on unemployment are doing so well that there is no way they will ever go back to work. Jackasses.

Got the wife's car inspected. Took my grandson to trade in some of his old xbox 360 games to put towards the new...well, whatever the kids are playing now.

This job loss could be either a great opportunity or it could be the beginning of a death spiral.

Time will tell.

A New Milestone In My Life

Today is the first day of my unemployment. 57 years old and out of a job. The thing I have feared since the start of the economic crisis in 2008 has finally happened to me. Laid-off, fired, WFRed (work force reduction), RIFed (reduction in force), what ever you want to call it, I am out of a job.
